In other words, I think that if an audience listens to something as an experience of how in tune it is or something of that kind, that the whole point is somehow being missed, and the music has failed.

That's an interesting question. I would say that in general Americans know very little about the law. It's one of those things that most of us take for granted.
I admire people who just do the right thing, not looking to screw people up. I love all people.
