It is wonderful how much time good people spend fighting the devil. If they would only expend the same amount of energy loving their fellow men, the devil would die in his own tracks of ennui.
Certainly if we hope do enhance and extend whatever natural assets we were given, we must expect to make an effort, if not actually great labor.
There is not in the universe a more ridiculous, nor a more contemptible animal, than a proud clergyman.
