One thing a lyricist must learn is not to fall in love with his own lines. Once you learn that, you can walk away from the lyric and look at it with a reasonable degree of objectivity.
By the time I was 9, I had the conviction that everybody in the world was an artist except plumbers or people who delivered groceries.
Believe me - I've done very good stuff and very crazy stuff, and I don't regret the crazy stuff.
