I won the parental lottery. Most of the kids I grew up with either came from really fractured homes, or really violent ones. I went home to a very traditional, good Irish Catholic family.
The school-room sends men to the Legislature, to the bench, and the executive office. The bar-room sends them to the scaffold and hell.
For me, there's a big difference between having a baby in your 20s and having a baby in your 40s.
